The very day Robert’s first break from school started we headed off to Lake Alice. We love going so much. We don’t bring in our watches and there isn’t cell service. It is so natural and wonderful being away from technology, clocks and our cell phones.
A few of our friends came with us. Drew stayed the entire time and Christian and Bob drove from Arizona for the trip!
This is probably my very favorite picture from our trip.
This year for the fourth of July we went camping. It was much needed. Robert had to study all day Saturday so we woke up early on Sunday morning and went to church at my parents ward. After church we drove up to the mountains and pitched our tent. We had a hot dog roast. You guys, I love campfires. Everything tastes so much better on a campfire. Robert and I slept with our rain flap off so we could look at the stars. We slept amazing. In the middle of the night a little creature tried to get into our tent. We both woke up and Robert had to scare it away.
After Robert and I got back from Arizona we desperately wanted to go camping and canyoneering. We planned a trip to Moab with all of our buddies. I didn’t know if I wanted to go or not because I would be the only girl, but hey girls can canyoneer too.
While we were in Yuma we went over the border into Algodones, Mexico. It is like 30 minutes away from Yuma. It’s a pretty touristy area of Mexico and is all for shopping. Robert and I stocked up on Mexican vanilla because it is the very best and it makes any dessert taste a million times better.
Mine and Roberts dream is to be snow birds at a young age. We will live someplace warm in the winter and in the summer we will live in Utah so we can still enjoy the beautiful mountains and hike and camp and play.
My grandma and grandpa are real snowbirds. They live in Yuma, Arizona from December to April. This year we went to visit them because hello, it was freezing here and it was 80 degrees there.
On our second port day we went to Cozumel. Cozumel is known for their white beaches and clear water. We didn’t have an excursion lined up so after getting off of the ship we found a place where we could snorkel and play on the beach. We went to the Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park.
The sun and I are best friends.
Robert and I played with some sea lions. They let us get in line to let her give us kisses on the cheek.
When it was Robert’s turn he turned his head and kissed her on the lips. Ha! After I went to kiss Robert and his lips were fishy! GROSS!
They wanted $16 a photo, so we snuck in and took photos. Suckers!
The water was beautiful. We were sad we didn’t have more time to play. I think we would go back to Cozumel to snorkel the crap out of the water. I’ve also decided I am going to be a snorkeler for life. I want to snorkel all of the waters.
Love Love Love,
Robert and I went on our cruise with 3 other couples. They are a few of Robert’s best friends from high school. It made the cruise so much fun. One of the best parts about the cruise was visiting Progreso Yucatan and Cozumel. Our first port took place in Progreso Yucatan. One of the wives of our group found a private tour through Trip Adviser. It was cheaper than the cruise excursions and it was only the 8 of us on the tour.
The tour guide started our tour by taking us to a Mayan community. It was so much fun walking around and driving around the little village.
This year for Christmas Robert and I treated ourselves to a cruise. That’s right, we didn’t buy each other any gifts. Instead we decided to get out of the cold.
Fun Fact. I have a weird obsession with Austin, Texas. I blame the TV show Friday Night Lights (FNL). The show took place in a fictional city called Dillon, but really they filmed it in Austin. Also, every year a huge festival takes place in Austin called SXSW. It’s for fans of food, TV, music, movies, and all things entertainment. I’ve always wanted to visit the city and this trip was our chance. Our cruise was departing from Galveston, Texas, so we decided to fly into Austin to visit some of our friends who live there a couple of days before our cruise.
The internet is our highlight reel. I am guilty of not posting the double chins, the messy home, or about how I cried all night because I was sad over something that hurt me.
Sometimes it’s annoying to see how “perfectly” people portray themselves. Here’s to keeping it real. Here are some of the outtake photos from our summer camping trips.
Robert and I went to Lake Alice in August. We decided to hit it up on our way home from the Tetons. Lake Alice is one of Robert’s favorite places and it is quickly turning into one of my favorite camping spots. It’s a 2 mile hike in. We backpack and I really thought I had figured out how to pack lightly and you guys, I don’t think I have. I swear I packed less, and I swear it was soooo hard. But I’ll keep doing it, because I love it.
Robert’s pack. He’s such a gentleman, always packing more than me. And yes, we stopped at Subway and bought a dozen cookies to take with us.
